Caminata de Sonora in Coyacan

The iglesias in the square in Coyacan
I held a second soundwalk for Cenart, this time in the Coyacan area, a name meaning ‘coyote’. For this walk, we did a series of observing exercises and small performance/interventions.

Jorge brough his guitar, here he draws a soundmap of the area. Coyacan contains many ‘soundmarks’ or, as the participants interpreted, ‘emblematico sonidos’

Amanda and Manuel work on soundmaps while our videographer documents.
One of the exercises was inspired by my sound artist friend Andrea Williams and involved listening to snippets of dialogue in the square and then repeating the sounds in a short performance. Below is a recording of the performance made by Luciana. The first is the performance in spanish and then the participants translation of what was said.
